Once again we are the week before a major auto show, next week is the press days for the North America International Auto Show, so it is show teaser time. This year the first one steeping up to the plate would be Hyundai as they are going to be reveling the second generation of their Genesis Sedan due out in 2014. Hyundai was really thinking out side of the box as they have released a single side profile teaser image.
The sales pitch that was associated with the image was: “The HCD-14 concept will give the automotive world a glimpse into future Hyundai premium vehicle design, advanced 3-D gesture-based technology controls, and spirited driving dynamics.”
While the HCD-14 concept car teaser image shows off plenty of sexy soft and hard lines, the look seems to be more restrained than the sometimes-jarring lines of Hyundai’s current range. The overall form is similar to that of the Audi A7, but it’s hard to tell if the Hyundai is a hatchback or will use a traditional trunk. No matter what, the glass area is almost identical to the A7′s, down to the kink in the C-pillar. A strong character line runs from head- to taillight just below the greenhouse, and swollen wheel arches are filled with what look to be large, split-five-spoke wheels.
The upcoming Genesis is said to have improved driving dynamics, as well as the possibility of an AWD system. Engine options are expected to remain the same, with both a 3.8-liter V6 and 5.0-liter V8 available, though they will likely receive some tweaks and we could see an R-spec model offering a twin turbocharged V6 to help it compete against the likes of AMG, M-division, and Quattro. The eight-speed automatic will be available in the car from launch, but a new 10-speed unit is rumored to on its way for a later model year.
