Toyota GT86 / Scion FRS TV Commercial Banned in England

Toyota’s “The Real Deal” advertisement for the GT 86, which is the Scion FRS here in North America, has been banned in the UK because it “condoned dangerous driving”. The Advertising Standards Authority ruled that ”the ad must not appear again in its current form. We told Toyota not to portray speed or driving behavior in a way that might encourage motorists to drive irresponsibly in future.”

The ad portrays a bleak world with total government control that the main character breaks free of by driving in his GT 86. The ASA received two complaints from viewers, which was apparently enough to get the commercials pulled.

Personally we think that this is one the most creative car advertisements that we have seen this year. One of Toyota’s representatives told UK’s Advertising Standards Authority that the ad doesn’t condone such behavior and that it is impossible to recreate it in real-life conditions. Although it’s banned from TV, the ad is live on YouTube and everyone can see it. So check it out below and then let us know in the comments section below if the ASA was right in blocking from being transmitted over UK airwaves.
